Beer sales bill for TCF Bank Stadium moves forward

TCF Bank Stadium could soon sell beer after legislation that would allow the University of Minnesota to serve it passed unanimously in the House Commerce and Regulatory Reform Committee on Wednesday, KARE11 reported. The House floor will vote on it next.

The bill would allow beer to be sold in stadium suites and in a beer garden located inside the stadium.

Sponsors estimate the University could bring in $1.5 to $2 million each year off of the sales, according to KARE11.

Talk about beer sales began when the stadium was first built; the University wanted to serve beer to fans only watching the games and events inside the stadium's suites.

Legislators viewed it as unfair treatment of fans in less costly seats and restricted the University's liquor license requiring beer be available to all fans over the age of 21. The University then opted for an alcohol-free policy.
