Stony Brook earns bid to College World Series

The Big Ten hasn't sent a team to the college world series since 1984. But the University of Minnesota's president Eric Kaler will probably be rooting for a team this time around.

Stony Brook, where Kaler served as president before coming to Minnesota in fall 2010, earned a bid to the College World Series by defeating Louisiana State two games out of three. On Friday, Stony Brook will play UCLA at a neutral site in Omaha, Neb., for a national title.

While most "Cinderella" stories are typically linked to college basketball and the NCAA tournament, Stony Brook has taken the college baseball world by storm and had many questioning: "Stony Who?"

A little-known Division I-AA team, the Seawolves had to defeat LSU in front of 10,000 Tigers supporters in Baton Rouge, La., where the Tigers hadn't lost a playoff game since their stadium was built in 2009. Stony Brook defeated LSU 7-2 on Sunday night in the deciding game.
