As the U.S. Olympic track and field trials in Eugene, Ore., wind down, so do Minnesota's chances of fielding an Olympian.
In the final of the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday, former women's team member Jamie Cheever crossed the line in 12th place of 14 athletes. Her time of 9:56.51 will prevent her from continuing her Olympic dream in London.
Two former Gophers runners competed in the 1,500 meters. Gabriele Anderson finished second in her heat and seventh overall with a time of 4:10.08. She will advance to Sunday's final for a chance to make the Olympic team.
Heather Kampf ran 10th in her heat, which was only good for 22nd overall. Her time of 4:14.03 kept her out of the final and the Olympic team.
