Despite going undrafted June 28, former Gophers big man Ralph Sampson III was selected to join the Charlotte Bobcats' roster for the 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
Sampson, 22, will join 2011 lottery picks Kemba Walker and Bismack Biyombo and 2012 picks Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Jeffery Taylor when the Bobcats' three-day mini-camp begins Tuesday.
Sampson's senior year at Minnesota was a disappointment. As one of the lone veterans on the team, Sampson saw his stats decline last season. He played nearly six fewer minutes per game than he did his junior season and averaged 7.9 points and 4.6 rebounds.
After injuring his knee during a practice in March, Sampson sat on the bench during the Gophers' run to the NIT championship game.
He is likely to see his first game-time action since March 3 when the Bobcats' summer league games begin Friday against Sacramento.
