Penn State's star point guard Tim Frazier will miss the rest of the season with a torn left achilles tendon.
Frazier, a 6-foot-1 senior, was averaging 16.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game before he went down in the first half of the Nittany Lions' loss to Akron on Sunday in Puerto Rico. Frazier was a preseason first-team All-Big Ten selection.
It's early enough in the season for Frazier to apply for a medical redshirt -- similar to the Gophers' Trevor Mbakwe, who was granted an extra year after tearing his ACL last Nov. 27.
The Big Ten has lost two of its starting point guards for the year before conference play has started; Wisconsin's Josh Gasser tore his ACL in practice Oct. 27.
