Gophers freshman women's basketball player Kayla Hirt was announced the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday.
Hirt scored 12 points and snagged a team-high 12 rebounds in Minnesota's 86-43 victory over Northern Iowa on Friday.
Hirt, a Bemidji, Minn., native, sat out the entire 2011-12 season with a torn ACL. She is Minnesota's top reserve this season, and her 8.4 points per game rank third on the team.
The honor is Hirt's first. Guard Mikalya Bailey was the last Gophers player to receive the award Nov. 19.
