Halftime: Gophers lead Penn State 24-10

Minnesota leads Penn State 24-10 at halftime in part to a strong first-half performance from sophomore quarterback Philip Nelson.

The Gophers have gone to the air a little more than usual in the first 30 minutes of this game and Nelson is reaping the benefits. He is 12-for-19 for 165 yards and threw a perfectly placed ball to redshirt freshman Maxx Williams late in the second quarter to stretch the lead to 14 points.

The Nittany Lions have limited Minnesota to 76 yards on the ground, but haven't been able to get off the field in critical situations. The Gophers converted two fourth downs and went 7-for-10 on third downs.

Nelson and junior running back David Cobb each added a rushing touchdown.

Minnesota has played well on the defensive side of tha ball, limiting Penn State to 10 points, but have struggled to slow junior running back Zach Zwinak. Zwinak has 14 carries for 97 yards.

The Gophers will receive the ball to start the second half.
