Jones admitted as student, but eligibility up in the air

Jeff Jones has been granted admission to the University of Minnesota as a student, per his Facebook account.

While gaining admission to the University is a significant hurdle for Jones, it does not necessarily mean he is eligible to play football for the Gophers. Jones, who has struggled to qualify academically, has still not cleared NCAA prerequisites according to his former Washburn High School coach Giovan Jenkins.

"That's the foot in the door. Now we have to figure out what the NCAA says in terms of his eligibility," Jenkins told the Minnesota Daily.

Jones, who committed in February, is the most heralded recruit of Minnesota's 2014 class. At Big Ten Media Days last week, Gophers head coach Jerry Kill told reporters Minnesota would appeal if the NCAA denies Jones' eligibility.

"I haven't heard anything from Coach Kill. Coach Kill will let me know when he's eligibile to play, but being accepted as a student obviously is totally different," Jenkins said.

Here's a picture of Jones' Facebook post Kyle Goblirsch of Gophers 247 posted.
