Halftime Report: Gophers lead Eastern Illinois 14-0

Minnesota's offense only managed 21 yards in the first quarter, but took advantage of an Eastern Illinois fumble to take the lead. On 3rd and goal from the 2-yard line, quarterback Mitch Leidner called his own number, rushing in untouched for the first touchdown of the season.

The offense woke up in the second quarter as it racked up 136 yards, extending their lead to 14-0. Wide receiver Donovahn Jones' first career touchdown highlighted the second quarter, as Leidner found him for a 35-yard touchdown pass.

The defense started out slow as it seemed like Eastern Illinois was going to drive the length of the field. However, a fumbled snap resulted in a 17-yard loss, and the Panthers were forced to punt. The Panthers botched a hand-off that resulted in the fumble that set up Leidner's touchdown run.

The Panthers had a chance to score first but missed a 41-yard field goal in the first quarter. Eastern Illinois has been able to move the ball, with 130 yards in the half, but has yet to score.

Eastern Illinois will start the second half with the ball.
