Gophers Grab First Two Big Ten Stars of the Week

After a home sweep of Notre Dame, the Gophers managed to capture two of the Big Ten's weekly three stars.

Sophomore forward Taylor Cammarata was given the Big Ten's first star of the week Tuesday morning, while junior goaltender Adam Wilcox was given the second star.

Cammarata tallied five points over the weekend, the most in the nation, all through assists in the team's first two wins. Cammarata is tied for first in the nation this year in assists with 10, and he said after Sunday's 4-2  win over Notre Dame that playing a supporting role doesn't bother him.

"Yeah, you know, I enjoy it," Cammarata said. "I know my time will come for some goals but I'm just enjoying making some plays."

Wilcox gave up two goals over the two games, and recorded his ninth career shutout in Friday's  5-0 victory. The St. Paul native turned away 41 shots total against Notre Dame, including a 2-on-0 breakaway early Friday night.

Cammarata walks away with his first weekly award from the Big Ten, while Wilcox now has his sixth.

The Gophers will return to the ice this weekend with a home-and-home series against No. 13 Minnesota Duluth.
