This week in Gophers sports: July 6-13

Mike Reilly signs with Wild, will participate in development camp

Gophers alum Mike Reilly signed a two-year contract with the Minnesota Wild on July 1.

Reilly came to an agreement with the Wild after becoming a free agent in June when he opted not to sign with the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Reilly, a two-time All-American defenseman for the Gophers, will participate in the Minnesota Wild’s development camp this week.

Sam Warning, a senior this past season, will attend the camp as well. Warning is undrafted.

Two current Minnesota players, freshman Jack Sadek and sophomore Robin Höglund, will also be at camp. Sadek was drafted by the Wild in the seventh round, 204th overall on June 27.

Höglund, a MöIndal, Sweden, native, is undrafted.

The camp will take place July 9-14 at Xcel Energy Center, and two scrimmages will be free and open to the public, on July 11 at 2:30 p.m., and July 14 at 6:30 p.m.

Mo Walker cracks summer league roster: July 4-10

Former Gophers center Mo Walker will play in the NBA Summer League with the Orlando Magic

Walker, who led Minnesota in blocks and rebounds during his senior season, will play for team blue during the 25-game event.

Walker will play for the Magic despite not being drafted during the June event.

The Magic will see competition from the Charlotte Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets, Indiana Pacers, Memphis Grizzlies, Miami Heat and Oklahoma City Thunder during the week of play.

Fellow Gophers alum Andre Hollins will not participate in the summer league, but instead signed a contract with the Leuven Bears in the Basketball League Belgium.

All-Star race continues

Former Gophers pitcher Glen Perkins will know his All-Star Game fate by Monday evening.

The MLB announced starters for both National and American leagues on Sunday evening, a vote decided by fans.

Though Perkins didn’t make the cut, he is likely to hear his name called during the Monday evening selection show, when the reserve picks are announced.

Reserve picks are selected for rosters by managers rather than fans.

The closer has represented the Twins the past two All-Star Games and has a 1.44 ERA this season with the team.

The reserve selection show will air on ESPN at 7 p.m. EST.
