How about alum can show their old student ID's and buy the remaining student tickets that have not sold out. Thats really the only way I can think of to deny access to all the Gopher Haters, but I do think that is a great idea, if the tickets arent sold out, grant them to those who show up and want to get in. Offer them as single game tickets.
I THINK TWILIGHT ROCKS DUDE IT IS SOOOO AWESOME 2 ME OF COURSE I DONT KNOW ABOUT YOU THINGS BUT YALL SHOULD READ DUDE IM TELLIN YA NOW AND FOREVER.....WATCH IT OR READ IT...NOW.HA HA HA HA HAHA HAHA
not always be 100% accurate, but it is usually a much better indicator of guilt than has been available to authorities in the past. In this case, the prosecution had a back up for the DNA evidence... the young woman who was smart enough to take the risk of a broken ankle over the greater risk of possibly ending up dead.
not to purchase Christmas gifts only, but also to take advantage of the discounted prices to replace some items in my home that were in desperate need of replacing. Consumerism isn't always a bad thing when it occurs in moderation. The same can be said for almost anything, such as alcohol or eating. All can be bad, if taken in excess. Perhaps the real problem isn't consumerism but the crazy competitiveness that seems to be immersed in all aspects of Americans' lives.
You're so right. We should bring back the ban on interracial marriage. This whole "black rights" thing is a novelty. When will they learn? They're only 3/5ths human!
I'm really inspired by Wil, Femi, and other members of Omega Psi Phi who gave of their time to bring a smile to other families. Great job and kudos to the fraternity.
How about open up the student section to public sales after the puck has dropped? As a Gopher alum with no season tickets, I pretty much have no way of seeing games unless I buy a ticket on the street. It would be great to be down there and get in last minute to fill the stands.
You'd just have to find a way to keep visiting fans out of the student section!
Didn't the CA Supreme Court give the go-ahead for the anti-gay marriage initiative to go forward before it did? It's very dishonest to pretend that there is anything in the CA constitution that prohibits discrimination against gays. The CA Supreme Court decision striking down the one man & one woman marriage statute was ridiculous and dishonest.
The people have the right to bypass the Court's reasoning and to go directly by initiative to the Constitution. The gay argument against the amendment has no merit. You can't maintain that the people don't have the right to amend the constitution because it would violate an established right of certain people (gays) in the constitution. The CA Supreme Court ruling created a novelty; the people begged to differ on the question. TS on the CA Supreme Court and the gays!
You cant really drop the prices when the demand was/is so high. To have 800 kids not get tickets last year means that ticket prices should go up, simple supply and demand. It sucks, but that is how it works.
I am dumbfounded that the tickets are not sold out. I graduated last spring, and during my four years I had to say a prayer before I turned in my voucher. To go from 800+ denied to not being sold out is unbelieveable and makes no sense.
As much as I love Frank, you cant take tickets away from the students, even if the public season ticket waiting list is 90+ years (when I got on the waiting list, it was 104 years long). I think the best solution to the problem (if it even is one), is to combine the student sections. I have been a huge proponent for this and have gone as far as to email Mr. Maturi. All he could say is that we dont want to upset the longtime season ticket holders, which is garbage. You upgrade their seats by placing them at the end where the Gophs shoot 2X, and place all of the students at the other end. By doing that, you make the old folks happy, and create a great atmosphere by combining the student sections. this increases the noise and chant participation. This in turn makes the atmosphere that much better.
Look at basketball ticket sales, they also are not sold out. I think it has a little something to do with this economy.
Anyways, I think the Daily should look into combining the student sections. Do a poll on it and see what people say. A poll on Gopherpucklive.com showed 70% in favor of combining the sections. I know its of topic, but I think that by combining the sections you create a better experience and atmosphere therefore increasing ticket sales for this one year (until we win another national championship). I would do anything to get tickets again.
I just stumbled across this article in your online archive. I assume by now you have contacted by others concerning the lack of journalistic fact-checking obvious in this article? Charles Carlson was not a tennis official at the Beijing Olympics. He is not the director of operations at a Minneapolis architecture firm. He did not grow up in England, he grew up in southern Minnesota near Northfield. He told your reporter lie after lie. Why? Because he is a compulsive liar who as recently as 2006 was living on medical benefits in subsidized housing in Owatonna while being treated for medical disabilities related to these and other mental issues.
The editor of this paper should be ashamed of the shoddy journalism (or, more precisely, lack of basic journalistic fact checking) that caused this article to be published.
Unfortunatly most people are simplistic and rather stupid. If drugs are bad then prohibition must be good, and their is no telling them otherwise. This is a good article, if only more people would wake up to the harm the war on drugs actually does, maybe we could pull our country out of the crime ridden slum it has become.
Perhaps the Gopher marketing department has just rested on its laurels for too long expecting students and others to just want to pay increasing hockey ticket prices on weekend nights. Restrictions on purse sizes, who can be brought to games, where you can sit have all disenfranchised the student, by whom for whom the game is SUPPOSED to be played but instead the Gopher marketing department has concentrated all their effort on the corporate and season ticket holder all the while increasing prices on the students who have already had their ability to obtain loans taken away and tuition increased in this economic climate. You want to get more students in the seats, easy, drop the student ticket prices.
The administration's strategy in the recent past has been to first ask for the gravy (e.g. the stadium, the Bell, new biomedical research buildings) in the belief that when they later ask for the mashed potatoes (e.g. Folwell renovation, HEAPR money) the legislature will not be able to say no.
This strategy has become a little too obvious lately. Especially since they seem to be able to foot the 70 million dollar bill for the so-called Northrup renovation without subjecting this boondoggle to public scrutiny.
AND they are the ones who picked president Bruininks so perhaps they feel that they have to back him up in some of his, shall we say, wrongheaded decisions.
However, the Regents as a whole are a very talented group of people and deserve our thanks for the work they do. I thought Peter Bell was an excellent Regent who provided the kind of contrarian view that would be useful. It is a shame that we lost him as a Regent.
An overhaul of the stated qualifications for being a Regent might be in order so that a more diverse group could be attracted?
Wish you would have gone with the "Gophers end two-game losing streak with tie" instead of the "Gophers winless after three" line. Consider the positives: Despite being down three crucial players due to injuries, and down a Captain after a stupid penalty, our secondary scoring finally - out of necessity - appeared in the form of a couple of freshman. The defensive substitution sort of worked, and in the third period, it was obvious that the old Gophers were still in there, albeit without a lot of jump. With nearly twelve days before the next contest for the injured ones - bar Matson - to get healthy, it'll be easy to turn this thing around for CC. Go Gophers.
It is sad that no one wants to participate in the University's governing body. Perhaps this reflects on the purpose and function of the regents themselves. They don't really do anything, and everyone knows that the president and his posse get to make all of the real choices that run the school.

Great Job David, we are glad that you were also able to get the families' perspectives.

God don't exist.
And the bible be complete fiction.

In keeping with our recent holiday:
