Corrections: A previous version of this story incorrectly stated the number of years a tree dies after infestation by the emerald ash borer, the markings the Minnesota Department of Agriculture looks for in infested trees, the cities sampled for infested trees and the ash trees the City of Minneapolis will replace for free. Most ash trees die within six years after infestation. The MDA inspects for S-shaped galleries. Samples were collected from Minneapolis, St. Paul, Lauderdale, Roseville and Falcon Heights. The city will replace any boulevard trees residing on private property.
