Horrible service. Seemed as if kids ran the place. The employees were sitting at the front desk and just chatting not paying any attention to customers and never picked up the phone that was continuously ringing. Took forever to get food and check, it was late night, wasn't even busy and seemed they had plently of employees. Good for the cheap late night appetizers though if you don't care about service.

During March 1 snowstorm, I was kicking back and so I went to Appleby's for a drink. I don't think I've ever ordered a drink there, before, so this was my first experience, first impression

First of all, the drink menu didn't have prices. Like, what, if I have to ask I can't afford it? This is Appleby's, not a high-roller casino. PUT THE PRICES ON YOUR FREAKING DRINK MENU, PEOPLE!

I had a Mucho Mary, which was a Bloody Mary. It came with a beer chaser, which the menu didn't specify, and that bugged me because...well, I like a Bloody Mary, but I don't like beer at all. In fact, beer makes me want to hurl. I vastly prefer hard liquor, the harder the better...ouzo, wild turkey, grapa, if I can SET IT ON FIRE then it's what I like.

But I'm very opposed to waste. So I squeezed three limes into my little beer, which was pretty small, actually, and I managed to swig it down. This was a real milestone for me, let me tell ya, but I still think their drink menu sucks for lack of prices and a certain specificity.

The "Mucho Mary" was also supposed to come with a "Slim Jim stuffed olive" or, well, maybe it was two. I got two olives, but they were just stuffed with pimentos. I double-checked the menu and wondered hey, what the heck? I wasn't sure if "Slim Jim" had morphed into some kind of weird word for "pimento," or if the bartender (so hot, I have to say that about her) didn't know how to make the drink.

She told me they "hadn't had time" to make the Slim Jim stuffed olives. Geez, this variation on the olive--and I'm crazy about olives--is one of the things that drew me to the Mucho Mary in the first place. So that was a let down, right there, and the price was, like, more than six bucks.

Oh, for the days I lived in El Paso and could go to Chihuahua Charlie's and they'd, like, give you a margarita in a GOLDFISH BOWL for a couple American greenbacks.

The bar at Applebee's has ticky-tacky rubber grapes for decoration and, at closing time, they put PLASTIC SHRINK WRAP over the tops of the bottles to, I assume, decrease evaporation of the alchohol. Well, from a presentation and aesthetics point of view, shrink wrapping the bar is a lot closer to a trailer park ambiance than the "feeling good in the neighborhood" thing Applebees tries to market.

All in all, a disappointing time at the bar but, just like sex, bad booze is better than no booze at all.

I was there a few months ago, and it took so long for somebody to come out and take our money that I had to go back near the kitchen and, like, LOBBY for service on behalf of myself and the senior citizens piled up like a log jam at the front counter. I thought I was going to lose it. I've noticed this place has a real tendency toward understaffing, lately.

The carside-to-go burger I got here was cold and undercooked. disgusting. and the manager never called me back to refund my money.

You really can't beat their half-price appetizer specials, a two-for-one deal during certain hours and days of the week. I've had the Thai pizza, (surprisingly yummy combo of a basic pizza with subtle peanut sauce) and I've really enjoyed their riblets. I consider Applebee's a pretty whitebread establishment, so I was surprised how rich and down homey the riblets are. Don't get all worked up and excited, it's not like ribs in Dixieland or even Famous Daves, but it's pretty good for a place that so obviously panders to suburban tastes in the heart of Stadium Village. Breakfasts there have great portions, can't complain at all. Yeah, it's a pretty basic Applebee's but I've never had a bad meal there, and I've had some pretty good ones. My only complaint: you can't get the two-for-one/half price deal with the appetizer platter, which is like the Rosetta Stone of appetizers.
