Multimedia Editor
Responsibilities
Oversees hiring and training of Photo and A/V departments; supervises Assistant Photo Editor and Assistant A/V Editor.
Acts as liaison between other departments/divisions (news, graphics, online) to improve coordination and efficiency of Daily management and news coverage.
Coordinates Multimedia elements of projects and stories.
Attend news, planning and managers’ meetings.
Brainstorm and stay up to date on story ideas by checking the news budget and other news media outlets.
Occasionally reviews video and audio clips for clarity, organization, legal and ethical issues and aesthetics before publication online in Associate A/V Editor’s absence; and edits photos, copy edits cutlines and pulls file photos in Associate Photo Editor’s absence.
Conducts employee evaluations.
Establishes and maintains standards of multimedia quality.
Oversees the multimedia budget and handles major purchases and equipment repairs for the department.
Qualifications
One year visual journalism experience with the Daily or equivalent, or news reporting and/or writing experience at the Daily or with other news media.
Supervisory experience preferred.
College level publication experience is a must.
Photojournalism, broadcast or related major preferred.
Must be a University of Minnesota student.
Essential Functions
Must have the ability to hear and speak English clearly.
Regularly requires the ability to visually analyze photos, videos and audio clips and newspaper content, while distinguishing between colors.
Frequently requires verbal intelligence to convey ideas and knowledge to other editors and reporters.
Frequently requires repetitive finger motion and finger dexterity.
May frequently require the ability to lift up to ten pounds, and occasionally up to twenty-five pounds.
May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions while on a photo shoot.
Frequently required to reach, stretch, crouch and crawl when on a shoot.
Frequently requires the ability to drive to photo shoots.
