A&E Editor
Hours: 30 HPW
Responsibilities
Assists in defining weekly coverage of fine arts and culture stories and assigns writers to stories/reviews.
Provide a wide range of coverage on a variety of topics or events from week to week and use judgment for what best serves readers.
Contributes content depending on space restrictions and season.
Coordinates both writing and editing for page. Editing duties include length, content and style. Writing duties are in accordance with use of freelance staff based on assessed need.
Responsible for recruiting and training freelancers, as well as editing freelance copy.
Maintain contacts with venues and publicists.
Work with other page editors to determine direction of content and needs of readership.
Plans, contributes to, edits and posts the Weekend Culture Compass.
Monitors blog and multimedia related to A&E.
Responsible for uploading all A&E content online.
Other duties as assigned by Managing Editor.
Qualifications
Must have solid writing experience and knowledge of Daily and AP style
Review writing experience preferred, but not required.
Must have interest in multiple areas, including theater, restaurants, books, stores, etc.
Previous editing experience is desirable.
Must be able to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Must be a University of Minnesota student.
Essential Functions
Must have the ability to hear and speak English clearly.
Frequently requires the ability to visually analyze newspaper content.
Frequently requires verbal intelligence to convey ideas and knowledge to other editors and writers.
Regularly requires repetitive finger motions and finger dexterity.
May occasionally require the ability to lift up to ten pounds.
May frequently be exposed to outdoor weather conditions while obtaining information for a story.
