Responsibilities
Primarily edits copy, designs pages and writes headlines.
As the last reader of copy, the editor will: fact-check; check spelling and punctuation; edit for readability, formatting and grammar; edit for libel and plagiarism; and edit for AP and Daily style.
Responsible for calling reporters or editors when questions or problems with a story arise.
Attends copy desk meetings.
Other duties as assigned by the Copy Desk Chief.
Qualifications
Newspaper editorial experience, copy editing and page design preferred.
Must pass copy-editing test.
Experience with Adobe InDesign preferred.
Must be able to work effectively under strict deadlines.
Working PC knowledge essential.
Must be a University of Minnesota student.
Essential Functions
Must have the ability to speak English clearly.
Regularly requires finger dexterity and finger motion when editing copy.
Regularly requires the ability to read and understand English while reading copy.
Frequently requires verbal intelligence to convey ideas to editors and reporters.
Must be able to distinguish between colors and be able to differentiate bold and italicized words.
