Staff Photographer
Responsibilities
Shoots quality news photographs on deadline.
Attends biweekly meetings for photo assignments.
Completes a biweekly minimum quota of eight assignments.
Works collaboratively with reporters as well as independently with sources to schedule shoots.
Maintains security and condition of photo equipment.
Assists other multimedia staff members on assignments.
Writes and submits cut-lines (captions) for publication.
May occasionally be assigned to produce feature length video or other multimedia content independently or in cooperation with a reporter.
Maintains security and condition of multimedia equipment.
Other duties as assigned by the Multimedia Editor.
Qualifications
Portfolio review with an emphasis on quality news photos and/or multimedia production. Applicants for this position must attach a portfolio or link to work samples to be considered for this position.
Must be knowledgeable in technical elements of photography (e.g., ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, etc.)
Proficient in using digital SLR cameras and manual controls.
Experience with DLSR videography and editing preferred.
Ambitious and self-motivated.
Attention to detail and deadlines.
Excellent time management skills.
Must be a University of Minnesota student.
Applicants need not own their own camera equipment.
Essential Functions
Must have the ability to hear and speak English clearly.
Regularly requires the ability to visually analyze photos and newspaper content, while distinguishing between colors.
Frequently requires verbal intelligence to convey ideas and knowledge to editors and reporters.
Frequently requires repetitive finger motion and finger dexterity.
May frequently require the ability to lift up to twenty-five pounds.
May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions while on a photo shoot.
Frequently required to reach, stretch, crouch and crawl when on a shoot.
