Web Programmer

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for development of internal systems as well the production site for the Minnesota Daily.
  • Work with manager and webmaster on a complete site redesign.
  • Develop systems and tools for all departments.
  • Attend weekly meetings and work predominantly in the office (15 to 20 hours a week).

Qualifications
  • Strong desire to learn
  • Experience with PHP, JavaScript, CSS, MySql and other web technologies
  • Familiarity with Linux/UNIX
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues and handle multiple projects
  • Work well independently as well as on a team
  • Prior experience working with media companies is a plus
  • Experience with Drupal is a plus
  • Excellence in Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator is a plus
  • Experience with mobile app development is a plus

Essential Functions
  • Must be a University of Minnesota student.
  • Must have the ability to hear and speak English clearly.
  • Frequently requires the ability to visually analyze information.
  • Regularly requires verbal intelligence to convey ideas, knowledge and thorough critiques for department and other Daily staff.
  • Regularly requires repetitive finger motion and finger dexterity.
  • There is an occasional risk of electric shock when working with machines.
  • Motor coordination skills necessary while working with computers and other equipment.
  • Must be able to distinguish between colors.
