Multimedia Reporter
Responsibilities
Shoots and edits quality news multimedia packages on deadline.
Attends weekly news desk meetings to develop and plan multimedia stories with reporters.
Completes a long-form multimedia package every two weeks.
Captures audio and video for breaking news or press events as needed.
Works collaboratively with reporters as well as independently with sources to schedule shoots.
Assists other multimedia staff members on assignments.
May occasionally be given photo assignments.
Maintains security and condition of photo equipment.
Writes and submits cut-lines (captions) for publication.
Other duties as assigned by the Multimedia Editor.
Qualifications
Prior experience at a college media outlet or equivalent.
Portfolio review with an emphasis on quality videography and/or multimedia production. Applicants for this position should attach a portfolio or link to work samples to be considered for this position.
Proficient in using digital SLR cameras and manual controls.
Must be knowledgeable in technical elements of videography (e.g., ISO, aperture, shutter speed, white balance, etc.)
Proficient in using video editing software (i.e., Final Cut or similar).
Ambitious and self-motivated
Attention to detail and deadlines.
Excellent time management skills.
Must be a University of Minnesota student.
Applicants need not own their own camera equipment.
Essential Functions
Must have the ability to hear and speak English clearly.
Regularly requires the ability to visually analyze photos and newspaper content, while distinguishing between colors.
Frequently requires verbal intelligence to convey ideas and knowledge to editors and reporters.
Frequently requires repetitive finger motion and finger dexterity.
May frequently require the ability to lift up to twenty-five pounds.
May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions while on a photo shoot.
Frequently required to reach, stretch, crouch and crawl when on a shoot.
