Co-Publisher and Business Operations Officer
Seeking a highly motivated individual to manage every aspect of the business department at The Minnesota Daily. The Co-Publisher and Business Operations Officer supervises the Daily's business operations including Finance, Marketing, Production, Creative, Distribution, and Sales departments. Manages the financial affairs in a fiscally responsible manner. Reviews and assists in the preparation of the appropriate financial reports including some projections, budgets, quarterly and annual financial statements, reports of advertising sales and any appropriate cost, revenue, or circulation analysis. Works with controller and sales manager to establish advertising rates and standards of acceptance to ensure that advertisements that demean or discriminate against an individual or group because of race, color, creed, religion, national origin, sex, disability, or sexual preference shall not be accepted. Supervises the Daily's business operations including employees, funds, and property. Support senior managers and solve problems that arise within the Daily's business operations. Organizes the business staff providing for selection, promotion, discipline, and dismissal of staff. Demonstrates problem solving within the business departments. In cooperation with senior managers, develops an annual budget of anticipated expenses for departments subject to the Board's approval. Consults regularly with the Editor in Chief, the Co-publisher and Prsident, and the Board of Directors to ensure coordinated and efficient operation. Reports all necessary information to the Board including all appointments of directors or managers, all dismissals, all substantial complaints, and changes in managerial or business policies or procedures. Chair of the ad review committee. Carries out all other duties delegated by the Board and as laid forth in the Daily’s bylaws. Must be a University of Minnesota student with 36 undergraduate or 15 graduate credits completed and a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0, although a minimum of 2.6 is preferred.
