Day in the Life 2012
Every day the photography staff at the Minnesota Daily brings its readers slices of art, culture, news, and sports. At midnight April 12, the staff left the Daily offices and fanned out across the Minneapolis and St. Paul campuses for an exercise that culminated in images documenting 24 hours in the lives of those who attend class, make their livings and spend their days on and near the University of Minnesota campus.
12:14 a.m. Construction workers continue work on the Central Corridor light rail line late into the night at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Ontario Street South East.
12:20 a.m. The abandoned railroad tracks behind the Sanford Hall are deserted at midnight.
12:40 a.m. Sophomore Kyle Senger takes a tumble on his longboard outside Williams Arena early Thursday morning.
12:45 a.m. A custodian cleans the ground floor of the STSS building.
1:35 a.m. Bartender Laura Schreier waits for a customer to order before last call at the Kitty Kat Club in Dinkytown.
1:46 a.m. Matt Weatherly, Blake Christian, Annalee Mason, Raina Wedeward, and Matt Johnson smoke from a hookah at a table outside Sanford Hall.
2:44 a.m. Tony Lang, an employee for Northland Fire and Safety, works late into the night cleaning the filters for the Republic on Washington Avenue South.
3:41 a.m. A street lamp illuminates a tree on an empty Saint Paul campus street.
3:48 a.m. Cows make their way back to their beds after being milked at the Dairy Teaching and Research Facility on the St. Paul campus.
4:28 a.m. A dairy cow exits a barn on the St. Paul campus.
4:29 a.m. An empty field in front of the Leatherdale Equine Center on the Saint Paul campus is flooded with light from a street lamp early in the morning.
5:32 a.m. The abandoned Bunge grain elevator towers over Van Cleve Park.
5:55 a.m. The I-35W Saint Anthony Falls Bridge.
6:28 a.m. Crew members row down the Mississippi River behind the East River Flats.
6:56 a.m. Bikers make their way across the Washington Avenue bridge as the sun rises.
6:59 a.m. A jogger winds down the West River Parkway pedestrian path early in the morning.
7:58 a.m. Construction workers begin their day at the University Recreation Center expansion site.
7:14 a.m. A construction worker ascends the temporary staircase that rises from the West River Parkway to the top of the Washington Avenue bridge.
8:37 a.m. English and advertising senior Liz Lorge runs on a treadmill at the University Recreation Center.
9:48 a.m. Biology senior Katy Bursaw practices riding 17-year-old thoroughbred mare Madeline at the Leatherdale Equine Center indoor arena as part of a student enrichment program.
10:36 a.m. A scuba diver drifts to the bottom of the University Aquatic Center pool during a scuba and skin diving class.
11:02 a.m. Horticulture freshman Abby Reynolds photographs plants in a greenhouse on the Saint Paul campus for her plant propagation class.

9:42 p.m. A runner makes a quick dash towards home during a game of softball at the West Bank Softball Fields.

10:14 p.m. Messa deliver driver Jared works in the basement of Mesa Pizza in Dinkytown.
10:25 p.m. Dave Bourn's spotlight lights up the sky above St. Anthony Main theater for the opening of The Minneapolis St. Paul International Film Festival Thursday night. Bourn's company, Hollywood Premiere, boasts a 800 million candle power, World War II era anti-aircraft spotlight as part of their arsenal.
10:43 p.m. Art and art history junior Laura Reichelt works on her ceramics final project.
10:55 p.m. Officer Luke Huck of the UMPD picks of remnants of a plastic light dome that was thrown over the Washington Avenue bridge onto the East River Parkway.
