Sexual assault reported at Gophers athletes’ apartment

The three basketball players aren’t considered suspects or witnesses.

A sexual assault was reported at the apartment of at least three University of Minnesota men’s basketball players early Monday, according to a Minneapolis police report.

The 25-year-old victim told police she was assaulted at an apartment on 11th and University avenues southeast, the report said. She was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center.

The report lists the players’ apartment as the address where the sexual assault allegedly occurred.

According to the report, police discovered the suspect’s name, but he wasn’t at the scene when they arrived and wasn’t named in the report. Minneapolis police public information officer John Elder said no arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon.

None of the three players — Andre Hollins, Austin Hollins and Maverick Ahanmisi — is listed as suspects or witnesses in the report. Their listed addresses match the reported location of the assault, but it otherwise wasn’t clear Monday why police named the three players in the report.

Ahanmisi and senior associate athletics director for strategic communications Chris Werle said they knew nothing about the incident when contacted Monday afternoon.

Andre Hollins and Austin Hollins could not be reached Monday evening.

The report lists one woman, 31, as a witness. She did not respond to calls for comment Monday night.

University spokesman Chuck Tombarge said the University does not have a comment on the matter as of Monday night.

“We are deep into the investigation,” Elder said. “We will release more information at such time that we can do so responsibly.”
