Head women’s gymnastics coach resigns

Head women’s gymnastics coach Meg Stephenson has resigned, the University of Minnesota announced in a release Thursday afternoon.

The resignation comes after two University-conducted investigations into “student and employee complaints about the program,” according to the release.

“Following these investigations, the athletics department took prompt and appropriate action to address the concerns,” athletics director Norwood Teague said in the release. “Now that those internal investigations are closed and completed, we are looking to the future of the program.”

There is “currently an open complaint filed with the federal Office for Civil Rights related to the program,” according to the release.

The program’s two assistant coaches, Jenny Hansen and Louie Johnson, will keep their current positions as the athletic department conducts a coaching search.

“New leadership will establish a positive environment for all of the students participating on the women’s gymnastics team, and we will ensure that the program functions in a manner consistent with the principles and expectations of this athletics department,” Teague said in the release.
