Sydney Hall residents notified of measles exposure, case no longer infectious

The case confirmed Wednesday night is no longer infectious.
Hennepin County health officials sent a letter notifying residents of Dinkytown’s Sydney Hall apartment complex that they may have been exposed to a case of the measles through contact with an ill resident of the building.

This case of the highly contagious virus is no longer infectious, the letter said, but residents may have still been exposed between Jan. 20 and Jan. 28.

University of Minnesota officials confirmed Wednesday night that a student had been infected with measles, and had attended class Jan. 20 through Jan. 23. The school said most people on campus aren’t at risk of contracting the virus due to the high immunization rate, but the virus is easily spread to people who haven’t been immunized.

Any of the apartment’s residents are asked to call the Boynton Health Service or their healthcare provider if they develop a high fever, runny nose, red eyes or rash, the letter said. Symptoms from this case of the measles could still occur until Feb. 12, according to the letter.
