Goldsmith will lead graduate student government in 2015-16 year

Nicholas Goldsmith, a third-year ecology, evolution and behavior Ph.D. student, was selected through an internal election to lead the Council of Graduate Students next school year.

Goldsmith will head the graduate student organization in the wake of a referendum passed this month to separate COGS and the Graduate and Professional Student
Assembly. COGS will represent graduate students, while a renamed GAPSA will represent professional students in the upcoming year.

Goldsmith, the current COGS Vice President of University Relations, said the split was important for both organizations and hopes it will facilitate better collaborations in the future.

As president, he said he hopes to focus on campus climate and inclusion — specifically the retention of diverse students.
