Student robbed in SE Como

Two suspects took the victim’s backpack and wallet as she walked home Monday night.

A University of Minnesota student was robbed at gunpoint in the Southeast Como neighborhood Monday night at about 9 p.m., according to a University crime alert.

The alert said that the victim was walking home near the intersection of 17th and Como avenues southeast, when two male suspects called to her from across the street and asked for directions.

The suspects crossed the street when the victim stopped to respond. One pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the victim while the other grabbed her backpack and wallet and demanded she empty her pockets, the alert said.

This is the second crime alert sent to the University community since the spring semester began.

The Minneapolis Police Department will add seven new officers this month to the 2nd Precinct, which includes Southeast Como and the University.
