Power outage stops Green Line

Buses replaced Green Line trains from Downtown east to Target Field.
A damaged overhead wire halted Green Line light rail traffic for several stops near downtown Minneapolis Wednesday morning.

Trains were stopped from Downtown East Station to the Target Field Station just before 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Safety concerns had trains down until around 10:30 a.m., Metro Transit spokesperson Howie Padilla said.

“There were concerns over a live wire, so we took all our safety precautions,” he said.

Buses replaced the Green Line trains between Target Field and West Bank Station, he said. Service resumed Wednesday afternoon.

Padilla said Metro Transit ensures areas around power outages are safe until they’re examined and said train service problems are hard to predict.

“Service disruptions happen, and we have precautions for every incident, whether it’s a safety concern or something else,” he said. “We have to have a backup plan.”
