As we wrote in an editorial last week, net neutrality is an important topic to take seriously, as the consequences of losing it would prove to be costly for Internet users — particularly students.
Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, recently criticized supporters of net neutrality, labeling it as “Obamacare for the Internet.” Thankfully, Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., responded by stating Cruz mischaracterized the debate by misunderstanding the concept of net neutrality.
This measure does not intend to change anything — it rather would keep the status quo of the Internet, while Obamacare was a deliberate attempt to change a health care system that was not working.
Let’s hope this grave misunderstanding of an important issue does not hinder positive change.
