Former Gophers women's hockey players goaltender Noora Räty and defenseman Mira Jalosuo were selected to represent Finland at the 2014 Olympic Games. Both players graduated last year after playing at the University of Minnesota for four seasons.Räty, 24, has been a member of the Finnish National Team since she was 15. She participated in both the 2006 and 2010 Olympics for Finland. The team won a bronze medal in 2010, finishing behind Canada and the United States. This is the first Olympics appearance for Jalosuo, who just missed the cut for the 2010 team.
Three members of the Gophers women's hockey team have been given WCHA weekly awards following last weekend's sweep over Ohio State.Junior forward Rachael Bona was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Week after recording six points on the weekend. Bona had a hat trick and added an assist in Minnesota's 9-2 win Saturday. She added two assists in Sunday's win.Sophomore defenseman Milica McMillen was named the WCHA Defensive Player of the Week on Wednesday. McMillen had two goals and three assists on the weekend. She had four points in Sunday's victory.
The University of Minnesota has been selected by the NCAA to host the 2018 NCAA men's hockey Frozen Four and the 2015 and 2018 women's hockey Frozen Four.
