Coughlin's seven sacks lead the Big Ten

Gophers' defensive end Carter Coughlin notched two sacks and seven tackles in last week's game against Ohio State.

Minnesota defensive end Carter Coughlin leads the Big Ten Conference and is No. 5 in the NCAA with seven solo sacks in the first six games. He had one of his best performances of the season with a two-sack, seven-tackle game against No. 2 Ohio State last week.

Charges not filed against Shannon Brooks.

Gophers running back Shannon Brooks was released from jail Monday after being arrested for an alleged domestic assault against his male roommate on Sunday night. Neither Brooks or his roommate suffered any injuries. The Minneapolis Attorney’s office has declined to press charges.

Turnovers cost Minnesota as its upset bid comes up short

The running game was clicking on all cylinders, the offensive line was winning the battle in the trenches and Minnesota's run defense was forcing Ohio State to be one-dimensional on offense. However, the Gophers' youth showed itself as the pressure mounted, the team made key mistakes on offense and special teams and Ohio State never looked back, beating the Gophers 30-14.

Freshman Daniel Faalele thrust into starting role

Freshman offensive lineman Daniel Faalele will start his first career game this Saturday at Ohio State. The decision was announced Tuesday afternoon as the latest depth chart showed the 6'9" 400-pound Faalele had taken redshirt sophomore Sam Schlueter's starting right tackle spot.

Head coach P.J. Fleck will take on Ohio State for the first time with the Gophers. But he is familiar with Ohio State's program, as his first coaching job was as a graduate assistant in 2006 under then-head coach Jim Tressel.
