Claeys: Kill resting at home and “doing well”

Minnesota defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys was unsure when head coach Jerry Kill would return to the team.

Gophers defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys said Tuesday that head coach Jerry Kill is resting at home and “doing well” after sustaining a seizure Saturday morning before the game against Michigan.

Claeys, filling in for Kill on the weekly Big Ten coaches media call, said he did not ask Kill during their phone conversation Tuesday morning when he will rejoin the team.

“It’s all around when his doctor’s appointments are and that type of stuff, so like I said, we’ll just take it one day at a time and see how it goes,” Claeys said. “We’re not practicing, so there’s no hurry for him to get back.”

Kill didn’t travel with the team to Ann Arbor, Mich., on Friday because he wasn’t feeling well, according to a team release. He had planned to meet the team Saturday, but remained in Minneapolis after the seziure. This was the first time in his Minnesota tenure that he’s missed an entire game because of health.

Claeys served as interim head coach as the Gophers (4-2, 0-2 Big Ten) lost 42-13 to Michigan.

“None of us like to see him go through it,” Claeys said, “but we’re all comfortable with the situation.”
