Briefs: Andre Hollins becomes second 2011 commit

Memphis guard Andre Hollins became the second member of the GophersâÄô 2011 menâÄôs basketball recruiting class when he verbally committed to the team Saturday, according to the Star Tribune and multiple recruiting sites.

Hollins is the second recruit from the 2011 class to commit to the Gophers, after Hopkins small forward Joe Coleman.

The 6-foot-2-inch guard won the Tennessee Class 3A Championship with White Station High School as a sophomore and took second this season.

Hollins is a three-star recruit according to Rivals.com, which ranks him the 126th best player and 40th best guard in the 2011 class. He also received offers from Stanford, Auburn, Harvard and Ole Miss.

Hollins is not related to Gophers freshman guard Austin Hollins, who is also from the Memphis area.

New two football game times announced

The Big Ten announced the kickoff times and television partners for the next two Gophers football games.

SaturdayâÄôs game against No. 15 Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., will kick off at 11 a.m. CDT and air on the Big Ten Network.

The Spartans are tied for first in the Big Ten at 4-1 in the conference and 8-1 overall.

Next weekâÄôs game at Illinois will also kick off at 11 a.m. in Champaign, Ill., and will also air on the Big Ten Network.

Following the Illinois game, the Gophers have a bye week before coming home to play Iowa for Floyd of Rosedale on Nov. 27.

Kickoff time and television information for the Iowa game is expected to be announced in the next two weeks.

The Gophers dropped to 1-8 Saturday after losing to no. 10 Ohio State 52-10.

Rowing takes 10th in Fall finale

The Gophers rowing team closed out its fall season this weekend with its top Varsity Eight (eight-person) boat competing at the Princeton Chase, while the rest of the team raced at the Head of the Iowa regatta in Iowa City, Iowa.

At the 3-mile Princeton race, the GophersâÄô boat, coxswained by senior Linnea Trandem, finished 10th out of 45.

In Iowa, the Gophers competed in the Varsity Eight, Varsity Four and Novice Eight competitions.

The team raced two boats in the Varsity Eight competition, placing sixth and eighth.

The GophersâÄô three Varsity Four boats finished ninth, 12th, and 15th, while the teamâÄôs three Novice Eight boats placed third, seventh and ninth.

The team will train throughout the winter before beginning its Spring season in March.

Dehn advances

Gophers junior tennis player Julian Dehn made it to the semifinal round of the Big Ten Indoor Championships, hosted this year by Michigan State in East Lansing Mich., but lost 6-3, 6-4 to Ohio State sophomore Peter Kobelt.

Gophers junior Phillip Arndt won the backdraw (consolation) match against IndianaâÄôs Jeremy Langer.
