Bronson La'Cassie added his name to a list of prestigious golfers this weekend by winning the 104th Western Amateur in Benton Harbor, Mich. The senior on the Minnesota men's golf team joined the likes of Tiger Woods, Phil Mickleson and Jack Nicklaus as winners of the tournament, when he defeated Pablo Martin, a junior at Oklahoma State, 2 and 1 in the championship match Sunday.

Minnesota's baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision to North Dakota State on Wednesday night in Fargo, N.D. The Bison scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on a two-run single by Bison catcher Gavin Hofer to take a 4-2 lead after tying the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Minnesota's soccer team released its 2006 schedule Monday. The schedule features seven teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament in 2005. The Gophers will open their regular season with a home game against Drake on Aug. 25.

Minnesota's women's golf team finished last in a field of 15 at this weekend's Lady Buckeye Invitational in Columbus, Ohio. The Gophers shot a 312 in Sunday's final round to finish 99 strokes behind tournament champions Auburn.

Senior Minnesota women's gymnast Laura Johnson tied for 20th in her session of the all-around competition at the NCAA Championships on Thursday in Corvallis, Ore. Johnson totaled 38.475 points, off the pace set by session winner Ashley Postell of Utah, who scored a 39.525.

Minnesota's baseball team defeated South Dakota State by a score of 16-11 Wednesday night in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Gophers scored five runs in the top of the ninth to break an 11-11 tie. Junior first baseman Mike Mee reached on a fielder's choice in the inning, then stole second base and third base on successive pitches.

Minnesota's baseball team defeated Northern Iowa 7-3 in 11 innings Wednesday in Waterloo, Iowa. Junior Gophers first baseman Mike Mee hit a bases-clearing bases-loaded double in the top of the 11th to give Minnesota a 6-3 lead. Catcher Kevin Carlson drove in the seventh and final run of the game later in the inning, scoring Mee.

Minnesota's women's gymnastics team defeated Utah State in its final regular-season meet at the Sports Pavilion on Saturday. The Gophers recorded 194.850 points in the win, and won every event. Senior Laura Johnson claimed an individual title in the vault, her 25th event title of the season, and won the all-around, her sixth all-around win of the year.

Minnesota's women's track and field team will send two individuals and one relay team to the NCAA indoor championships in Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend. Freshman Heather Dorniden will compete in the 800-meter and the distance medley relay. Dorniden, the Big Ten Freshman of the Year, owns the second-best 800 time in the nation this year with a time of 2 minutes, 4.30 seconds.

Minnesota's women's basketball team fell three spots to 23rd in the new AP top 25 poll released Monday. The Gophers lost Friday 61-46 to Indiana in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament. The loss was Minnesota's fifth in seven games after starting the Big Ten season 9-1. The Gophers were ranked 11th on the week of Feb. 7 before beginning their slide.

Minnesota's softball team won four of five games at the Buzz Classic in Atlanta, but fell to Radford during the first elimination round Sunday. The Gophers (8-9) gave up an RBI single to Shelby Richard in the top of the seventh inning Sunday for the game-winning run. Freshman Briana Hassett took the loss for Minnesota.

Minnesota's softball team split four weekend games at the Coastal Carolina Tournament this weekend. The Gophers (4-8) won their first two games in South Carolina on Friday, defeating Pittsburgh 3-1 and Coastal Carolina 3-2. They proceeded to drop their last two games, falling to Virginia Tech 6-1 and Pittsburgh 4-0 on Saturday.

Minnesota's men's swimming and diving team is in second place after one day of competition at the Big Ten Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in Bloomington, Ind.
