Dorsey leaves team

The point guard was suspended for the last four games of the season.
Point guard Kevin Dorsey will be leaving the Gophers after his freshman season and transferring to another school, head coach Richard Pitino announced Monday.

Dorsey was suspended for the team’s final four games of the season, along with guards Nate Mason and Dupree McBrayer, for a violation of team rules. The Associated Press reported on Feb. 29 that a sexually explicit video was posted on Dorsey’s Twitter and Instagram accounts and later removed.

The three guards were later reinstated to the team for the 2016-17 season, Minnesota associate athletics communications director Dan Reisig confirmed to the Minnesota Daily on March 29.

“After discussion with Kevin and his family, we all feel that it is best for him to transfer and get closer to home,” Pitino said in a statement. “We wish Kevin nothing but the best moving forward and will assist him in the process in any way that we can.”

Dorsey appeared in 26 games as a freshman and averaged 6.8 points and 2.3 rebounds per game. He had 37 assists on the year and 36 turnovers.

The Waldorf, Md., native will have three years of eligibility remaining. He was rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN.com, 247Sports, and Rivals.com coming out of high school.
