Life without Vincent Grier. That's the next chapter of the season for Minnesota's men's basketball team. The Gophers (1-0, 0-0 Big Ten) begin the four to six week stretch without the All-Big Ten senior Saturday against Tennessee-Chattanooga at 3 p.m. at Williams Arena.

It would be difficult for anyone to fill the shoes of 7-foot, 260-pound Jeff Hagen. Add that he was second in blocks per game in the Big Ten last season, and his shoes become even bigger.

After a dismal showing against Southwest Minnesota State in the team's first exhibition game, Minnesota's men's basketball team needed to regroup for its game against Duluth. The Gophers did just that Thursday, downing the Bulldogs 78-64 at Williams Arena.

After the Minnesota men's basketball team defeated Southwest Minnesota State on Saturday, coach Dan Monson was anything but pleased with his team's performance. Now, after watching the game film Tuesday morning, there is somewhat less concern going into tonight's final exhibition game at home against Duluth at 7 p.m.

Miles Webb, a 6-foot-3-inch freshman guard from Brooklyn Park, Minn., said in a statement that he "fulfilled a personal goal to play for the Gophers," but he is ready to continue his career elsewhere.
