Minnesota continued its spring season with two duals at the Baseline Tennis Center over the weekend, winning 5-2 over Green Bay and losing 5-2 to Drake University.

The Gophers won the top five singles matchups against Green Bay on Friday but lost five of six singles matches on Sunday.

“[It] wasn’t enough to get the [victory], but more information to learn from,” head coach Geoff Young said on Sunday.

The Gophers, now 3-4 in the spring, lost the doubles point on Friday with sophomore Matic Spec and junior Jeremy Lynn earning the team’s lone doubles victory.

The team played better in singles with Spec, senior Ruben Weber, freshmen Justyn Levin, Josip Krstanovic and Marino Alpeza all winning their matches.

Minnesota won the doubles point against Drake on Sunday, with Spec and Lynn combining for another victory.

“I guess we just play well together,” Spec said. “I feel like he’s returning really well from his forehand, and so was I for the most part. I think that’s a big part along with the big serves and the volley game.”

In singles, the Gophers lost their first two matches to go down 2-1 before Weber tied it up with a victory.

Spec lost in the No. 1 singles spot, and Krstanovic also fell in his singles match to give the dual to Drake.

“These guys are just trying to work on their game, trying to get better,” Young said. “We need to get better on basic things and also just how we compete.”
