WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

Women
While a 10-18 overall finish, and a 3-13 record in the Big Ten, seems like nothing to get excited about, for the Gopher women’s basketball team it does.
The three Big Ten wins last season were the most conference victories for Minnesota since the 1994-1995 season.
Finishing tied for tenth in the Big Ten, Minnesota is slowly making progress out of a serious scoring slump.
Losing four seniors including Erin Olson, the team leader in scoring and assists, would typically mean certain death for the Gophers. But junior Cassie Vanderheyden and sophomore Lindsay Lieser have different plans.
The duo of Vanderheyden and Lieser combined to contribute 128 of the Gophers 154 three pointers this season. Vanderheyden was second behind Olson in scoring and assists and set a new school record by sinking 20 consecutive free throws.
Lieser, no slouch herself, set a Minnesota single season record for trey’s, knocking down 66 in 28 games. Lieser currently holds the Minnesota high school record for three pointers.
