UMN researchers creating vaccine to prevent opioid addiction

University of Minnesota alumnus Steve Rummler dealt with chronic pain after a serious back injury, so his doctor prescribed him opioids, which he eventually became addicted to. He died after a relapse in 2011, and his family started a nonprofit in his name to help others with addiction. 


Despite downsides, some UMN students opt for ADHD meds

Nearly 6 percent of University students have ADHD, according to a 2015 College Student Health Survey report, and many of them use medication to manage their symptoms. As the number of people who are prescribed drugs like Ritalin, Concerta and Adderall increases nationally, experts say doctors should diagnose ADHD carefully to avoid overmedicating or misdiagnosing patients.
