.CANTON, Ohio (AP) - A former police officer accused of killing his pregnant lover sobbed on the witness stand Monday that he accidentally struck her when she wouldn't let him out of her house.

"I didn't mean to hurt her," Bobby Cutts Jr. testified, clutching a handful of white tissues.

Cutts, 30, said he was at Jessie Davis' home to pick up his 2½-year-old son, Blake, and was telling her to hurry.

The Hormel Institute, a cancer research department of the University based in Austin, said last week it purchased a supercomputer as part of its $24 million expansion project.

The Blue Gene/L supercomputer, produced and marketed by IBM, will be used to expand cancer research at the institute, associate director Ann Bode said.

"We're really committed to having state of the art technology for our researchers," she said, "and the Blue Gene is part of that."

The Blue Gene/L supercomputers debuted in 2004, Blue Gene software program manager Mike Good said.

As lawmakers across the state prepare for the start of the 2008 legislative session today at noon, dozens of Minnesota Fantasy Legislature participants are eagerly awaiting the session kickoff as well.

The University announced last week that it has partnered with Sprint and T-Mobile to offer discounted cell phone plans through its UMart Web site.

Marcia Habben, director for Sprint in Minnesota, said that with the plan, University students, staff and faculty can get plans through UMart for 15 percent less than they could through another provider.

T-Mobile representatives were unavailable for comment.

Natascha Kampusch was 10 when Wolfgang Priklopil abducted her in 1998. He held the girl for the next 8 and a half years, most of the time in a tiny, underground cell in his home in a Vienna suburb. Kampusch escaped in August 2006, and Priklopil threw himself in front of a train hours later.
