In a season full of record-setting performances, the Gophers women’s hockey team achieved its first real goal this weekend at Ridder Arena — in record fashion, of course.

The Gophers beat Minnesota-Duluth 5-0 on Friday to claim the WCHA Conference’s regular-season title, becoming the fastest team ever to do so.

“We set three goals at the beginning of the year,” head coach Brad Frost said Friday, “and our team just accomplished the first.”

The No. 1 Gophers women’s hockey team may have the best goaltender in the nation and the WCHA in senior Noora Räty, but it has to face the Nos. 2 and 3 goalies in the conference in consecutive series.

Last weekend, Minnesota swept Wisconsin and its junior goaltender Alex Rigsby to set a new NCAA Division I unbeaten record. Räty also tied the NCAA Division I career wins record.

This weekend, Minnesota-Duluth’s freshman goaltender Kayla Black will look to prevent the Gophers from clinching the regular-season conference title.

The Gophers women’s hockey team swept Wisconsin this weekend in Madison, Wis., and earned two more spots in the NCAA Division I record book.

Minnesota beat the Badgers 2-0 on Friday to break Wisconsin’s unbeaten record of 32 games. Minnesota won 5-1 Sunday, helping senior goaltender Noora Räty match the record for most victories in a career.

It marks the Gophers’ first season sweep of the Badgers since the 1999-2000 season and their first road sweep since 2003-04.

The Gophers women’s hockey team equaled another NCAA Division I record over the weekend, and junior forward Amanda Kessel reached another personal milestone.

In other words, it was just a typical weekend series for top-ranked Minnesota.

The Gophers beat unranked Minnesota State-Mankato 8-1 on Friday and 6-0 on Saturday in Mankato, Minn., to extend their Division I-record winning streak to 32 games. They also tied the Division I unbeaten streak record.

MANKATO, Minn. – The last time the Gophers women’s hockey team played Minnesota-State Mankato, the Gophers equaled and broke the NCAA Division I winning streak record.

Two months later, the Gophers have extended their record to 31 games after an 8-1 win against the Mavericks.

“[We] just found out before the game that we set the record against Mankato," head coach Brad Frost said. "That seems like about three or four months ago, and apparently it wasn’t that long ago. So we really don’t think about it a whole lot.”

When the 2014 Winter Olympics roll around, Natalie Darwitz will be a spectator.

Though the three-time Olympian and former Gophers women’s hockey star is enjoying the next chapter in her life, she said it will hit her hard when the games begin in Sochi, Russia.

“I miss the competition. I miss the big games,” said Darwitz, 29.

But in her second year as head coach of the girls’ hockey team at Lakeville South High School, Darwitz is less stressed, more laid back and more carefree.

Katie Frischmann’s day resembles the typical college student’s in many ways.

She goes to class, studies, hangs out with friends and is still unsure of what she’s going to do with her life when she graduates in May.

Frischmann’s roommate called her fun to be around. Her friend called her personable.

But her day also differs significantly from the average college student’s.

That’s because Frischmann is a member of the Gophers women’s hockey team.
