When I hear the words “I’m a feminist, but..,” I already know that the clause that follows will almost certainly aggravate me. However, I was still unprepared for the ultimate palm-to-forehead experience I had when the end of that sentence was, “but I don’t eat pussy.”

As a University of Minnesota alumna, former Gophers women’s volleyball coach for 13 years and a general supporter of the University, I am very concerned with the comments coming from Norwood Teague about Title IX.

In April, Macalester College student group Kick Wells Fargo Off Campus  staged a sit-in protesting the college’s relationship with the bank. Despite yearlong negotiations with KWOC, Macalester administration declined their request to switch their banking relationship to a local community bank. KWOC is targeting Wells Fargo because of their involvement with numerous foreclosures affecting the Macalester community.

Unless Congress can agree on a plan, Stafford loan interest rates will double in July.

Partisanship in the nation’s capital could lead to yet another manufactured crisis, this time directly impacting students and their checkbooks.

On July 1, the interest rates on subsidized Stafford student loans is set to double — from 3.4 to 6.8 percent — unless congressional Democrats and Republicans can agree on a plan to keep the rates from increasing.

While there is a general consensus in Washington that Congress must act to prevent interest rates from doubling, there is little agreement on how to do so.

What should we expect from religion now?

I grew up in a non-religious household. My family never went to church, never talked about gods or spirituality and never observed any religious rituals. My parents always told me that should I want to go to church, they would drop me off there and pick me up. They never forced any religious understanding on me, and they never expected any from me. I loved it.

You can learn a great deal listening to college students from every region of the state, across all sectors of postsecondary education. Some are single parents supporting children, while others are helping siblings, or even parents, go to school. They understand completing their education is critical to improving their lives and the lives of their families, but the daily challenges of making that happen are daunting.

Not yet one month ago, Gov. Mark Dayton gave his signature to a bill making Minnesota the 12th state in America to legalize same-sex marriages. As our nation looks forward with several other states poised to address the same issue, it’s important to recognize how widespread the effect of this bill is on Minnesota’s local communities, including its influence on University of Minnesota students.

The Save Dinkytown group spurred an environmental review of a new apartment complex last month when it presented a petition to the Minneapolis City Planning Commission claiming the yet-unnamed development could hurt the “unique history, aesthetic character and identity of Dinkytown,” according to a Minnesota Daily article published May 29.
