“Notorious “
Directed by: George Tillman Jr.
Starring: Jamal Woolard, Derek Luke, Anthony Mackie
Rated: R
Showing at: Area theaters

More than a decade has passed since Biggie Smalls was gunned down in Los Angeles and the story has since become as notorious as its protagonist, with new conspiracy theories popping up each day and (for some odd reason) a continuing necessity to choose sides in the long-dead East Coast vs. West Coast feud.

Blurb:
While the real-life events might have been fantastic and awe inspiring, their dramatization is only moderately entertaining and hardly ever rousing.

As a composer of scores for Hollywood movies, Michael Wandmacher is responsible for arousing ears and aurally fondling the viewer. So, how does one get such a gig?
Wandmacher attended the University of Minnesota in the ’90s and graduated from the journalism school. His music career began with low-budget commercials and independent films in the Twin Cities, but soon after, he set off to L.A., where he caught the ear of music editors in the industry.
A&E recently spoke with Wandmacher, whose most recent film, “Punisher: War Zone,” will be released in early December.

STARRING: Nicole Kidman, Hugh Jackman
DIRECTED BY: Baz Luhrmann
PLAYING: Area theaters
RATED: PG-13

“Australia,” the much buzzed-about new film from “Moulin Rouge!” visionary Baz Luhrmann , is an epic in the vein of “Gone with the Wind,” “Giant” and, yes, even “Titanic.” What constitutes such an epic? For starters, “Australia” is almost three hours long. But besides that, it’s chock full of gorgeous scenery, a multi-layered story and, of course, a breathtaking romance lingering at its center.

“The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas”
DIRECTED BY: Mark Herman
STARRING: David Thewlis, Asa Butterfield, Jack Scanlon
RATED: PG-13
SHOWING: Area theaters

There is no typical “hollywood ending” in “The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas,” an adaptation of a young adult novel written by John Boyne . Of course, with such weighty material as the Holocaust, we can’t expect any kind of tying up of loose ends.

With no important events or holidays falling within its dates, the month of December seems to be a dreary, cheerless time, void of carols, nog-like drinks or religious significance. It is firmly situated between the ecstatic hope of Thanksgiving and the drunken reality of St. Patrick’s Day. The month is, however, an important one for movies, and A&E has chosen a few to spread cheer and joy to this otherwise uneventful time of year.

“The Brothers Bloom “
Directed by: Rian Johnson
Starring: Adrien Brody, Rachel Weisz, Mark Ruffalo
