Mesa pizza opens dining hall

With lines that spill out to 4th Street nearly every weekend night, management at Mesa Pizza by the Slice tried to find a way to serve customers more efficiently. On Friday, the expanded Mesa opened and nearly doubled its square footage. Since opening in August 2006 , Mesa has been a popular student eatery, and Manager Flaco Huevos said a great opportunity to expand came along in June when Dinkytown Barbers closed next door . In an effort to open before the start of spring semester, construction began about three months ago, Huevos said, and the restaurant was closed on New YearâÄôs Eve and Day. Huevos said the space will allow the restaurant clientele to move more efficiently and expects larger lunch crowds with the addition of sit down tables. While he said the larger restaurant allows more movement for customers, he is also excited to have more room behind the counter. âÄúNow that we have more space, we will be able to experiment with more, new kinds of slices,âÄù Huevos said.
