Female body found in search for missing student

Authorities near Alexandria, Minn., reported Monday that a farmer found human remains of a young woman roughly the same age as a University of Minnesota-Morris student who went missing on Oct. 14, according to the Forum News Service.

The Douglas County sheriff’s office said a farmer in the county reported finding the remains at around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, the news service reported.

An identification of the remains is pending an autopsy and lab results from the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Anoka, Minn., according to the news service.

Laura Schwendemann, an 18-year-old from Starbuck, Minn., was last seen at a Holiday Gas Station in Alexandria, Minn., according to a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Officials said in a press release Wednesday they do not think she left voluntarily.

Both the Douglas and Pope County Sheriff’s Offices have conducted ground and air searches in a number of townships nearby, a Saturday release said.

Officials believe Schwendemann may have been near a blue house with a three-foot-tall statue that night, which marks the “general area” of their search, but police have yet to find the house, the release said.
