Junior Muyu Wu led the Gophers along with Joanne Free in a shortened tournament over the weekend.

Minnesota placed 10th in the Lady Buckeye Spring Invitational that featured 14 teams, including nine Big Ten teams. The tournament was scheduled to have three 18-hole rounds to decide the winner, but because of heavy overnight rains in Columbus, Ohio, the tournament ended without playing the third round on Sunday.

"I am seeing a lot of progress. We are getting there, we were close to some good teams," head coach Michele Redman said. "We are ready to go for next week."

Illinois took home the victory with a total score of three-over par. Minnesota finished seventh among Big Ten teams. This was the last regular season tournament for the Gophers. Next week, they travel back to Ohio to compete in the Big Ten Championships.

Wu, who leads the Gophers with three top-20 finishes, finished just outside the top-20 in a tie for 27th. Wu came into the tournament also leading in scoring, with an average of 75.53. Free also finished tied for 27th at seven-over par.

Senior Sabrine Garrison led the Gophers after round one, shooting two-over par, but in the second round shot 79 to drop to third on the team. She finished up the tournament at nine-over par and tied for 40th.

Freshman Grace Kellar finished at 12-over par and tied for 54th place at the tournament.

"This golf course this week was good prep for us next week, which is why we are here," Redman said. "The good thing is everyone is getting better."
