With a new semester comes new opportunities. Whether it be to achieve your New Year’s resolution or trying something new, the University of Minnesota offers over 800 student groups. There’s something for everybody, from the great outdoors to learning new dance moves. It’s the ideal time to head up a group or test the waters.
Though Minnesota is home to all four seasons, it sure seems like winter will never come to an end. Luckily, these outdoor adventure groups make it easy to enjoy the outdoors and the beauty Minnesota has to offer. For example, the Outdoors Club has several communities in the group that aim to reach different aspects of the club. The backpacking community and beginner camping community are two of the more popular communities among the several choices.
Bring out your inner artist
Minneapolis is practically the arts and entertainment capital of the Midwest. First Avenue is located near campus and the Whole Music Club is on campus, so it’s only fitting that the University has an abundance of A&E groups. The Electronic Dance Music Club is one to check out. EDM Club includes DJ lessons, production lessons and Q&A meetings with local artists. The group also regularly partners with other student groups and offers chances to DJ events.
Have your voice heard
With hundreds of social action clubs, the University offers many politically charged groups. Whether it be bettering animal health, human rights or supporting local charities, the University has a student group for it. One of these groups includes Colleges Against Cancer, a volunteer group dedicated to spreading awareness surrounding cancer. CAC hosts events and activities throughout the semester, with the most notable being the University’s Relay for Life.
As we begin a new semester, it’s the perfect time to try something different. Grab a few friends and check out a new student group — you never know what you’ll like until you try it!
