Person shot next to Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s home

The building in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood shares a driveway with the senator’s home.

A person was shot outside a building next to the home of U.S. senator and 2020 Democratic hopeful Amy Klobuchar in Minneapolis Saturday afternoon.

The shooting occurred on the 400 block of 6th Street Southeast in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood Saturday around 12:30 p.m., said Minneapolis Police Department spokesperson John Elder. According to Hennepin County property records, the building at the address of the crime shares a driveway with the senator’s home.

The victim was sitting in a car parked in front of the building when someone began shooting into the vehicle, Elder said. The victim was taken to North Memorial Medical Center and treated for non-life threatening injuries. The suspects were gone before police arrived.

A resident of the area who wished to remain anonymous said they heard a loud noise and looked outside to see a car crashed into a fence that leads to the building’s driveway. They said they saw a man firing a gun and later saw bullet holes in the car’s windshield and drops of blood on the ground leading to the building’s back door.

On the day of the shooting, Klobuchar was kicking off her 2020 presidential campaign. She stopped first in Eau Claire, Wisconsin and Mason City, Iowa later that day, according to MPR reporting

Klobuchar’s campaign could not be reached for comment.
