If you ever thought picking out an outfit was stressful, think about the possibility of a famous fashion designer seeing it. Now multiply that stress by one hundred.
That was exactly how it felt to put together a look for “An Evening with Tan France.”
The “Queer Eye” star came to the University of Minnesota campus on Saturday night for an event hosted by Student Unions and Activities, the Pakistani Student Association and the Queer Student Cultural Center.
The sold-out event boasted many iconic looks and an abundance of short-sleeved button-up floral shirts. Here are some of the looks that were particularly fabulous.
Senior, majoring in theater and minoring in English
What they wore: Beret and scarf from Goodwill, sweater from Arc’s Value Village, pants from Old Navy, jacket from Forever 21 and Doc Martens boots
Dalen's look drew inspiration from Pinterest and was executed stunningly. The bright blue beret accompanied by the leopard print jacket was eye-catching and stood out among crowds of florals. And of course, classic Doc Martens tie every outfit together.
Junior, majoring in theater and communications
What they wore: Bodysuit from Amazon, jumpsuit from Urban Outfitters and shoes from ASOS.
This look was classy, yet fierce. The blue of the denim jumpsuit was so vibrant with Casson’s red curls and black turtleneck. This particular look was created with France’s co-star Jonathan Van Ness in mind; he would be so proud.
Senior, majoring in computer science and minoring in design
What they wore: Bandanna from a shop in St. Paul, top from Forever 21, pants and fanny pack from Depop and secondhand Timberland boots
Printed pants! Wow! While they look plainly checkered, a closer look showed us that primary colors were hidden between the lines, which made these pants even more exciting. Saravanan matched the hints of blue in her pants to the bandanna in her hair, as well as to her eyeshadow. A true color scheme queen.
Junior, majoring in industrial systems engineering
What they wore: Jumpsuit from Free People, boots from Urban Outfitters, turtleneck from Calvin Klein
Honestly, this was a good night for a checkered print, too. The boots and the pale pink jumpsuit were ‘70s-esque with a modern feel, and the chunkier heel on the boot really pulled the vibe together. What’s even more impressive is that, when asked what inspired this outfit, Schmidt said, “It’s all I had in my closet.”
