The Gophers women’s track and field team picked up eight event titles and eight runner-ups at the Minnesota Cold Classic on Friday.
It wasn’t just the event titles the that showed their dominance — the Gophers had high finishes across the board in every event. Whether it was sweeping the podium or finishing in the first ten spots of an event, the Gophers did it all.
In the field events, redshirt senior Nayoka Clunis picked up event titles in the shot put with a mark of 16.49 meters and in weight throw with a throw of 20.91 meters. The top four finishers in the shot put were all Gophers.
On the pole vault, redshirt senior Lexi Kiefer set a season-best of 3.92 meters to claim her first event title of the year. The final field event title belonged to redshirt junior Ashley Ramacher as she picked up her third title of the season on high jump, jumping 1.63 meters.
On the track the Gophers had the top-ten finishes in the mile race. Leading the way was redshirt junior Maria Eastman setting a personal record with a time of 4:57:00. Redshirt sophomore Jaycie Thomsen and redshirt sophomore Bit Klecker each set new personal records with times of 4:58:38 and 5:01:55, respectively.
In the 60 meter dash, freshman Akilah Lewis grabbed the event title with a time of 7.59 seconds. She wasn't the only freshman who grabbed the top spot on the podium. Freshman Sydney Kretlow set a season-best on the 800 meters with a time of 2:23:36 en route to a first-place finish.
Redshirt freshman Lauren Hansen won the 200 meters with a career-best time of 24.83 seconds.
Along with the eight event titles, the Gophers also had eight runner-up performances.
The Gophers are back in action next weekend for the Big Ten Indoor Championships in Geneva, Ohio on Friday and Saturday.
